Valerie -Rev 3 Williamsburg Sprint Tri

SATURDAY!!!!!!!! Sprint Tri!!!!!!!!!!
0.6 mile swim - 15 mile bike - 3.1 mile run
4:30 am alarm
Up and at 'em ladies!!!
This day would start with a sprint for Priscilla and me followed by a kids Duathlon for Danielle. We all three have to get up and ready. No one traveled with us so I was "Moming"and racing. We get up. Coffee made. Stuff gathered. A few Carolina Country Snacks pork cracklings for breakfast and some bacon.Out the door to transition at 5:15 ish. Walk from camper to transition. This was fabulous being on site camping at the venue! We get set up and head to swim start.
This is just a "for fun" or because we are stupid race for us. Rev 3 offered special perks and bling if you were willing to sign up for The Revolution Challenge. Sprint Saturday, Half Sunday. We were IN! Only around 25 people total took this challenge.
The Swim - Women first followed by Men 5 min later ( I hate being swam over top of ). We are off. I am spotting by Priscilla. She wanted to try and stay together as much as possible. The start was a little congested but thinned out a little after the first turn. And after the turn is when I lost the ability to sight ANYTHING. The bouys were orange, the water was brown. I couldn't see SHIT. I just kept swimming and making sure there were swim caps near me. Some men swam by. HOLY SHIT what is that??? THE GROUND, SEA WEED, WTF??..... Well it was both. Crawl, swim, crawl, swim shit. LAST BUOY!!! People are walking should I walk? They always say it's faster to swim as far as you can. Why are all these people walking? Stand up, sink to thighs in mud. OH HELL NO!!!!! I'll crawl all while being completely violated and I'm pretty sure raped by seaweed. OUT OF THE LONGEST SWIM EVER (not literally but figuratively). Watch said 0.9 miles covered.
Transition 1 - socks, bike shoes, helmet, sunglasses, bike and run out of transition
The Bike - I can FLY!!! 15 Miles. Have fun, get in aerobars and peddle bitch! Go, go, go!!! Prissy spotted headed back. Go, go, go!!!!
THIS SHIT IS FUN!!! YYYYYEEEEEHHHHHHAAAAAAWWWWW
Transition 2 - PRISSY!! Running shoes, hat, Prissy headed out , cold bottle from cooler in transition ( fabulous idea from ME ), running belt and RUN
The Run - I'm chasing Prissy. She's in my sight. Well that's probably because you just skipped the first 3 intervals dummy! DO NOT SCREW THIS UP!!. Pass Prissy, walk interval. Prissy passes me. She gets to walk interval. I pass Prissy. About the 5th time this happened she informed be me this was the suckiest game of leap frog ever. About 2 more times like that and we decide just to pick a watch (hers), follow it, and stay together. Running, encouraging, handing out mustard for crampers and just having a good time!!! Headed back to the finish!!! Damn we are going fast (for us). Down the massive hill without injury and into the finishers shoot!
THAT SWIM SUCKED but the bike and run were pretty FABULOUS.
Prissy goes to check her times ..... 2nd SECOND, SECOND, SECOND
SHE GOT SECOND IN HER AGE GROUP!!
Well shit, check mine...... ARE YOU SERIOUS??????????
!!!!!!!!!!!!WE BOTH GOT SECOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot describe this in words. Second is sweet but both you and your daughter, racing partner, and best friend getting second at the same race... A pretty big race..... HUGE FOR US!!! What a moral booster for tired arms and legs!!!!
Dani completed the kids Duathlon. She still hates running. The only time she smiled was taking Lilly across the finish. Lilly got a medal too .
Go see Rock Tape guys. Thank them for their magic taping!!! Back to camper for shower and wine to celebrate. Back to Rock Tape for a refresh. I got to meet another Athena group member Christina and her husband. Oh my goodness she was fabulous. It's great being able to finally meet people who have supported you so much virtually. Eat and get everything back together and ready to race the half tomorrow!
Also found out Kris had a flat tire the last 4 miles of the bike. Guess my bad luck did rub off! SORRY KRIS!!!!
Getting ready

Bikes all set up

Walking to swim start

Yes she is crying.... She does NOT like running!

AND FINALLY A SMILE!!!!

PROUD MOMMA!

Wrightsville Beach Marathon Race Report Part 2

I left out a few key points in part 1 that made this race a marathon I completely plan on running again next year! The Course:  beautiful, even when running over the draw bridge (I don't like bridges), the volunteers are SUPER, there are 3500 runners together on the first loop and it makes you feel such a rush of being part of an important movement of bodies and sweat. The Crying Opportunities: this course had plenty of places to cry, after the half and full split, where you were spread out enough that emotional breakdowns and supernatural visits from family members can be experienced without judgment. I am an EMOTIONAL runner. I cry a few tears in every race, happy, sad, hurt, it doesn't matter I cry. This race had 3 crying experiences (that is pretty average). Crying spell 1: Mile 19ish, my hamstring is killing me. Same thing happened in WG Marathon but it is so intense and unwavering it can be hard to bear, which leads to a few angry tears. Crying spell 2: Mile 2...

Killer Countdown!

Today I am so excited and ecstatic about the marathon I can barely contain myself. Although I know this is how I will feel as soon as we start: With the countdown at 2 days until race day the eating habits change a bit. I personally have to make sure I keep my carbs high enough (not a common problem) and make sure I take the time to slow down the workouts ie. yesterday being limited to one 1 hour workout. When you go as hard as we do slowing down is HARD! Mentally the slowing down is the biggest challenge because now all I think about is what if I roll my ankle walking down the hall, or trip over a curb, or bang my knee, or trip over the dog in the kitchen. Our minds are such funny things. We go 16 weeks if not more training for these races and you get down to the last two weeks and think about everything under the sun, even alien abduction, as being a threat to your race day. The stir craziness of preparing this week has made my mind a mental madhouse. Cook food, wash clothes, ...

Just an update and a bike ride

After the CPR incident last Tuesday, the rest of the week flew by including: 4 new tires, a 6 hour training for work, and going to see Beauty and the Beast with a sweet friend and her son for his birthday. The one question that keeps lingering in my mind is, "How does it feel that you saved someone's life?" Well..... It feels like I got to help someone cherish their family a little more. It feels like I made my members feel more comfortable and safe at the Y. It feels like I helped a few people think about their health a little bit more. But most of all it really makes the statement "You aren't promised tomorrow" ring hard in my mind. Cherish your moments.... Today was a normal Tuesday + a 35 mile bike in the afternoon. What a release! I needed a push and a challenge to cleanse my soul in the sun and my mind in the wind. Now to slow down and prepare for this marathon that we are so ecstatic about we decided if we started walking now we could defi...
