13 days, Refocus and Chant Your Mantra!

13 Days until the adventure a lifetime and a year has prepared me for and I humbly decide that the focus must shift towards August 20, 2017.

So I do all the social media posts for my job and this is what I planned a month in advance for today.... how ironic. I wake up this morning in a not so pleasant way, but decide anyway, that today is the day I get up and look only ahead to the race to come. That first begins with acknowledging all the success this season has brought already, but letting those fade (for now) and focus on the new beast to come.

Williamsburg was such a good race for me. Even with the overheating I had a great race and a great win and PR, but that is irrelevant for the days to come. I must focus only on August 20, 2017.

I told myself I was wearing the bracelet until they replaced it with my new bracelet, but it is time to refocus, prepare, and celebrate this new opportunity.

I am reading quite an amazing book, Furiosly Happy by Jenny Lawson.
A long weekend of reading, laughing, crying, and understanding helped me find my mantra. "Pretend you're good at it." Well hell, that seems easy enough. I've always been good at playing pretend! I can be good at anything in pretend land! Watch out Kessler, in pretend land, I'm on your heels!

Mantras really are good. They give you something to think about, focus on, and sing when you are all alone in the middle of a corn field. 😓

Time to start Monday focused, fired up, and furiously happy!

TrivaVal's W.B. marathon report

The week before a big event your mind and body do some strange things. First your body begins to ache all over. Second you are an emotional nightmare of emotions and completely irrational. Third your mind is an uncontrollable barrage of must do this, must get this, do not forget this which is why the kitchen sink ends up being part of your luggage. Travel day finally arrives! Hopefully you have a huge vehicle because the kitchen sink is going in. Your mind has played out every possible "what if" scenario resulting in at least 3 bags of items being packed. The night before.... Now you would think you would like to get a great nights sleep on this night but it is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Hopefully you have had some sleep the week before because you will lie in bed miserable tossing and turning all night and may even have some very interesting or terrifying dreams. This particular race my dream was that we were being chased by a human size chicken during the race...

Ever feel like.... WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!?!?!?!?!

Well that feeling kicks in this week as we start to write out the plan that we officially begin on Monday. We are writing this plan on top of our current Marathon Training Plan schedule. On top of that basketball begins for Danielle this week and will be 2-3 days a week. And life still happens. If you try to think more than one week ahead it gets overwhelming, so for now I will stick to thinking one week at a time and sometimes one day at a time! In actuality the beginning of the 140.6 Triathlon training plan is less than we have been doing recently, but with the Marathon Training Plan thrown into that mix it is not really giving us any decrease. Here's to our kick off!! 1/23/2017 the plan begins!!

Wrightsville Beach Marathon Race Report Part 2

I left out a few key points in part 1 that made this race a marathon I completely plan on running again next year! The Course:  beautiful, even when running over the draw bridge (I don't like bridges), the volunteers are SUPER, there are 3500 runners together on the first loop and it makes you feel such a rush of being part of an important movement of bodies and sweat. The Crying Opportunities: this course had plenty of places to cry, after the half and full split, where you were spread out enough that emotional breakdowns and supernatural visits from family members can be experienced without judgment. I am an EMOTIONAL runner. I cry a few tears in every race, happy, sad, hurt, it doesn't matter I cry. This race had 3 crying experiences (that is pretty average). Crying spell 1: Mile 19ish, my hamstring is killing me. Same thing happened in WG Marathon but it is so intense and unwavering it can be hard to bear, which leads to a few angry tears. Crying spell 2: Mile 2...
