Reindeer Romp 5K Jamestown, NC

This was my 3rd Reindeer Romp. This was the first time I have ever done it by myself. Actually there were a couple of firsts here this weekend. Having been a snowman the past 2 times, I decided to be a present this year. I was wearing a Rudolph top and red pants to match with bows on my hat. Well the red pants I picked were not going to work. They wouldn't stay up. The only other red pants I had were red jeans. Well, there's a first time for everything, so I ran in jeans (over my CW-X running tights of course). Also this was the first year TrivaP (Priscilla) was the race coordinator for the race. Her duties were many but one of which included biking the course during the run. The temperature at run start was a brisk 23°.

At 9am dressed with bows on my hat and jeans I ran. I met some lovely people during my run as always. I love the interaction which is why I never wear headphones. At mile 2 the lying volunteers were shouting, "You are almost there." to which I responded letting them know Santa Clause was watching them. At mile 2.4 a young boy asked if we had passed mile 1. Hahahahahahaha. I let him know we were at mile 2.4 and others around me seamed shocked. Guess they were all "In the zone". We were in site of the finish but get directed through the GTCC campus for the last 0.5 miles. Those people yelled, "You are almost there".... AGAIN.... To which I responded, "You lie", to which they responded, "Well there are no more hills." Now having done this run twice before I knew that there are 2 huge hill climbs at the end. I reminded them also that Santa was listening to them. Last year those last 2 hills got me. This year I was ready and I powered up those hills. I took that last turn and sprinted the last 100 yards to the finish. I beat last year's run by over a minute and got a 5K PR for me. Must have been the jeans and bows!

What the HIVES?!?!?!?!??

2 weeks prior to the Divas Half Marathon I began to notice a strange redness during one of my workouts. Then I realized it was hives. The hives were only on my legs and mainly on my knees. I took some Benadryl that night. The next afternoon I had hives again. I went to the pharmacy and got some spray for the uncontrollable itching that you COULD NOT scratch or the result would be a fire like sensation. I also got an allergy medicine I could take during the day. The next day was a long bike. No hives, no hives, no hives, 10 pm HIVES. What the heck???? So I stopped using Voltarin. Still had hives after 3pm everyday. Some days worse than other days. Ugggghhhhhh So Friday I shave, no hives, and get ready for the beach trip (Divas Half Marathon Myrtle Beach). We get to the beach and I changed into pajamas and BAD HIVES. I notice they do not go above mid thigh. I don't shave above mid thigh.... Hummmmm I wonder. Well I didn't shave any all weekend. Got a PR for the Half Marathon. Bo...

Ever feel like.... WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!?!?!?!?!

Well that feeling kicks in this week as we start to write out the plan that we officially begin on Monday. We are writing this plan on top of our current Marathon Training Plan schedule. On top of that basketball begins for Danielle this week and will be 2-3 days a week. And life still happens. If you try to think more than one week ahead it gets overwhelming, so for now I will stick to thinking one week at a time and sometimes one day at a time! In actuality the beginning of the 140.6 Triathlon training plan is less than we have been doing recently, but with the Marathon Training Plan thrown into that mix it is not really giving us any decrease. Here's to our kick off!! 1/23/2017 the plan begins!!

The Inaugural Crystal Coast Tri - FULL BOOTY

Full Booty race report. The weather reports all week had stated we would have substantial winds and possible thunderstorms. We had all of that. I had lots of friends doing this race. That was great and we shared some great pre-race time together.  This is also the first race we have had family (other than my youngest daughter) at. That was different!  I think I should share a little pre-race. Jill with the race knew me by first name in March. I need a lot of information to ease my mind and make my plan. She was wonderful. We had been told there would be certain nutritional items on the course but what we were told was very limited.  Soooo plan B was initiated.... Team SPAZ members (my sister and youngest daughter) were recruited for run stop #7 between mile 9 & 10. They were stocked with baby wipes, Kleenex, chicken broth, pickles, jelly beans and pickle juice. Now I feel better and have something to run too. Race day The Swim: 33 or so of us enter the water ...
