Kennedy 50 mile walk

Walk 50 miles in one day from Potomac, MD to Harper's Ferry, WV on the C&O trail. Things you know in advance: the start is at 3:30am. The hotel is "at" the finish so the start is at least 50 miles away. Busses will take you from the hotel to the start. You must finish before 10:30pm. There are some vans that can carry some things for you if you want but they may or may not be at the stop where you need the stuff when you get there 🧐 Arrival Friday at the Clarion Inn Harper's Ferry. Check in. Given a room in the main building on the first floor. I later told P this is likely because in the event of a Saturday night fire alarm stairs would be impossible. Buffet dinner Friday night 5:30. An hour of instructions and corrections and instructions where we learn those morning busses load at 1:15am and we are expected to gather in the lobby at 1:00am!!!!! ONE FREAKING AM. We also learn about "makeshift" bridge over a culvert in the canal that may or may no...

The Inaugural Crystal Coast Tri - FULL BOOTY

Full Booty race report. The weather reports all week had stated we would have substantial winds and possible thunderstorms. We had all of that. I had lots of friends doing this race. That was great and we shared some great pre-race time together.  This is also the first race we have had family (other than my youngest daughter) at. That was different!  I think I should share a little pre-race. Jill with the race knew me by first name in March. I need a lot of information to ease my mind and make my plan. She was wonderful. We had been told there would be certain nutritional items on the course but what we were told was very limited.  Soooo plan B was initiated.... Team SPAZ members (my sister and youngest daughter) were recruited for run stop #7 between mile 9 & 10. They were stocked with baby wipes, Kleenex, chicken broth, pickles, jelly beans and pickle juice. Now I feel better and have something to run too. Race day The Swim: 33 or so of us enter the water ...

Anxiety, Depression, and Implementing Positivity

It has really been a testing and trying  past 2 weeks. Last week my anxiety was at an all time high, which got my defenses down and now I have Flu A. As thing after thing piled up on me last week and the emotions grew, this song is all I could sing in my head......   https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h0K9jxmFMNo Sometimes I feel as though my anxiety and depression run my life. I try to swim, bike, or run from it, but when it's ready for me too really see it, it slams the breaks on my life and gives me no choice. I think the worst part is no matter how bad people want to help, they can't. You are in this fight with yourself alone. So for the sake of accountability and for giving those who want to help someone with anxiety and depression but don't know how, here are the 5 things I am going to try to implement everyday to train my brain to be more positive! No it won't take away the things we are fighting threw, but it will help us train ourselves to look at them in a mor...

Post Full Depression and Refocusing

Post Full iron distance depression is REAL! As soon as I crossed the finish line on August 20th, the finish line volunteers said, "Your only 23 and you've already hit the top, what do you do now?" Hmmmm....Good question..... that question seems to still be ringing in my ears now as life has gone back to normal load and the training for 2018 begins. What do you do now? How do you top that experience? Will anything be that meaningful or will you be unfulfilled by 2018's experiences? Step #1: Step out of your comfort zone. On a whim, apply to be an ambassador for the company that completely made your 2017. ✔ #TeamRev3 #BestDAMNteam Step #2: Sign up for at least one race per month (except February) and OWN them!   -January 6th- Frosty 25k   -March 17th- Wrightsville Beach 26.2   -March 24th- (hopefully) Marine Corps 17.75k   -April 28th- R N' R Nashville 26.2   -May 12th- Cap 2 Cap Century   -May 20th- Chattanooga 70.3 relay (13.1)   -June 3r...

13 days, Refocus and Chant Your Mantra!

13 Days until the adventure a lifetime and a year has prepared me for and I humbly decide that the focus must shift towards August 20, 2017. So I do all the social media posts for my job and this is what I planned a month in advance for today.... how ironic. I wake up this morning in a not so pleasant way, but decide anyway, that today is the day I get up and look only ahead to the race to come. That first begins with acknowledging all the success this season has brought already, but letting those fade (for now) and focus on the new beast to come. Williamsburg was such a good race for me. Even with the overheating I had a great race and a great win and PR, but that is irrelevant for the days to come. I must focus only on August 20, 2017. I told myself I was wearing the bracelet until they replaced it with my new bracelet, but it is time to refocus, prepare, and celebrate this new opportunity. I am reading quite an amazing book, Furiosly Happy by Jenny Lawson....

What Does an Ironman Look Like?

2.4 mile swim. 112 mile bike. 26.2 mile run. What is the first body type, weight, or idea of what an "ironman" should look like to you? Throw it away. A. Body dismorphia is REAL! B. Beautiful women are being "fat shamed" because they aren't a size 6 or less. C. What my 170lb body can do is AMAZING and just because I don't fit in the category of what an "ironman" is suppose to look like doesn't mean I won't become one! My definition of what an Ironman looks like consists of 102 miles of training in the pouring down rain while laughing and singing. My definition of what an Ironman looks like is eating healthier than you have in your whole life, watching your body retaliate against you, and still getting up to train strong every morning. My definition of what an Ironman looks like is using your life circumstances as fuel to finish something that is way bigger than yourself or your circumstances. Why do we give ourselves these p...
